Abstrak

As English becomes increasingly important in various fields such as business, finance, industry and education, most Indonesians want to be able to speak English well. Based on that phenomenon, Kemendiknas has included English as the compulsory lesson in school curriculum. Speaking is classified as productive skill which then become the most important skill to be learned. The problems that will be studied in this research are: first, what are the students’ response on the implementation of IOC technique in learning speaking? And the second is how is the effectiveness of IOC technique in learning speaking? In order to improve the students’ speaking skill, the teacher needed a new technique to make the students more enjoy and easier to speak. So, the researcher considered that by using IOC technique could effective in learning speaking. The aim of this research is to find out the improvement of students’ achievement of speaking learning after being taught by using IOC technique. The involvement of the students’ during the implementation of IOC technique is 100%, because of 31 students in the experiment class involved all. From the result, in control class students’ speaking is lack. Because it can be seen from the score of pre-test that shows many students get low score. But, the students can improve their speaking after they got the treatment. The score of their process show increasing, most of students get better score. The effectiveness of teaching using IOC technique in speaking learning is significantly effective. According to data, the value of to (t observation) is higher than tt (t table) 2,00 < 2,77 > 2,66, in disagree of significant 5% and 1%. It means that Ha (alternative hypothesis) of research is accepted and Ho (null hypothesis) is rejected.
