Abstrak

Taufik Hidayat Srn. 1612301212020. Maximizing Extensive Listening for Assisting Students’ Speaking Ability. (Qualitative Research at Eleventh Grade Student of MAN 1 Lebak). Speaking is one of the basic language skills that has important role to be mastered by students in order to be a good communicator. But, many students in senior high school of MAN 1 Lebak face some problems dealing with speaking English. The researcher applied extensive listening to assist students’ speaking ability. Because extensive listening is one type of media that can improve students’ speaking ability as stated by Matsuo. Then, can be interesting media for a learning speaking. The aims of this research to analyze how is maximizing extensive listening to assist students’ speaking ability. The objective of this research is to find out how far maximizing extensive listening can assist students’ speaking ability. This research used qualitative method, the instrument used in this research was tests (before using extensive listening and after using extensive listening) and interview. Then, to analyze the data the researcher used the theory from Lodico, et al. The participants of this research was three students of eleventh grade student of MAN 1 Lebak Academic year 2020/2021. The test result of this research showed that the speaking ability of each students’ after using extensive listening was higher than before using extensive listening. There were improvements from the indicators of speaking ability because of this research, the five indicators of speaking ability are grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, fluency, and pronunciation. Furthermore, the result of the interview showed that all of the students’ agree that learning speaking by using extensive listening is effective enough and makes interesting for learning speaking. Based on the result above, it can be conclude that using extensive listening could be assist students’ speaking ability
