Abstrak
This thesis discusses the effectiveness of using TikTok Apps in increasing the English vocabulary mastery of class VIII A students at SMP Muhammadiyah Tirtayasa, Tirtayasa District, Serang Regency. The study was motivated by the lack of English vocabulary that students have, as well as the large amount of time they spend watching TikTok videos at home so that students often ask the teacher for the meaning of the new vocabulary they acquire during the English learning process. This research aims to determine the effectiveness of using TikTok Application in increasing Students’ Vocabulary Mastery at SMP Muhammadiyah Tirtayasa. This research is a type of quantitative research using experimental research methods. The design of this research is True Experimental Design with a pretest-posttest Control Group Design. The population used was all students in class VIII A of SMP Muhammadiyah Tirtayasa, for sampling using the Random Sampling technique which then obtained 2 classes, 1 class for the experimental class while the other for the control class. Data collection techniques using test instruments. The collected research data was analyzed with the help of the Microsoft Excel computer program and SPSS software version 29 for Windows. Namely by testing the prerequisites for normality and homogeneity as well as the t-test and effect size test. The results of this research are that there is a significant influence in watching Tiktok videos on the vocabulary mastery of class VIII A students at SMP Muhammadiyah Tirtayasa. This is proven by the results of hypothesis tests carried out in two different classes. The results obtained in the experimental class posttest were 0.001 with a significance level of ≤ 0.05. This is supported by the Size Effect calculation which obtained a value of 0.70, which means that the effectiveness of TikTok Application in Increasing vocabulary mastery is at a medium level based on the Cohen effect criteria table.
