Abstrak

Asep Sholihuddin Habibi. 152301837. 2019. “The Effectiveness of Prediction Strategy in Teaching Reading Comprehension on Narrative Text (A Quasi Experimental Research at the Eight Grade of Islamic Boarding School MTs Daar Al-Ilmi Kota Serang). Advisers: As’ari, S.S., M.Si., Tri Ilma Septiana, M.Pd. This research investigated Teaching Reading (Narrative Text) Using Prediction Strategy. It was conducted based on two main problems. 1). How is the students’ reading comprehension on the narrative text of the eighth grade of Islamic Boarding School Daar Al Ilmi Cikulur? 2). How is the effectiveness of predicting strategy in teaching reading narrative text of the eighth-grade students of Islamic Boarding School Daar Al Ilmi Cikulur? The aims of this research are 1). To describe the students’ reading comprehension on the narrative text of the eighth grade of Islamic Boarding School Daar Al Ilmi Cikulur. 2). To investigate the effectiveness of predicting strategy in teaching reading narrative text of the eighth grade of Islamic Boarding School Daar Al Ilmi Cikulur. The researcher collected the data from 79 students experiment class consist of 41 students and control class consist of 38 students. The instruments were pre-test, and post-test. The result showed that the students Reading Narrative text abilities which used prediction Strategy had better performance than those who had not used Prediction Strategy. It can be seen from the result that reseacher has got the mean of pre-test score is 24.88 and post-test score is 57.27 from the experimental class and the pre-test control class score is 27.79 and post-test score is 43.55. The research got t0 = 3.07 df = 77, ttable 5% = 1,99. It means Ha (alternative hypothesis) of the research is accepted that there is a significant improvement of using prediction strategy to improve students’ reading comprehension on narrative text. From the result of the test, it can be concluded that the prediction strategy has effect to improve students’ reading comprehension on narrative text and also can be applied in teaching learning process to improve students’ reading comprehension.
