Abstrak

The objective of this research is to triggering students’ self-confidence to speak English of students in Grade XI of MA Ashhabul Maimanah Cikobak in the academic year of 2021/2022 through the Conversation Strategies.The method in this research is case study research with qualitative approach conducted in two class, XI A and XI B. The subject of this research is all students of class XI and one the English teacher. The data collection in this research is observation, interview, and documentation. The technique of analyzing data in this research used the data reduction, data display, and conclusion. This research implemented the conversation strategy on students’ self-confidence to speak English. The conversation strategy used are the question conversation strategy and compliments conversation strategy. The research finding from this study that the students do not feel confident to speak English. The teacher used conversation strategies to practice students’ self-confidence to speak English. The teacher gives motivation and appreciation to students for triggering students’ self-confidence when the student conversation in the classroom, it can train students confidence to speak English. The motivation and appreciation given by the teacher included the students’ extrinsic self-confidence, it appeared when the students feel excited after receiving motivation. Then, the students’ intrinsic selfconfidence is when the students conducted conversation with their friends. It appeared when they conversation feel happy and enjoy. Therefore it can be concluded the conversation strategies can be triggering students’ self-confidence to speak English.
