STUDENTS’ PROBLEMS IN PRONOUNCING ENGLISH FRICATIVE AT SECOND GRADE OF SMPN0 KARANGTANJUNG (A CASE STUDY AT SECOND GRADE OF SMPN0 KARANGTANJUN- PANDEGLANG) In Academic Year 9108/9109 This research investigate students’ problem in pronouncing English fricative at second grade students of SMPN 0 Karangtanjung Pandeglang. The problem in this study is 0. How is the profile of fricative pronounced 9. What fricative are mispronounced by the students 1. What are the factor make the students in pronouncing English fricative. The purpose of this study 0. To know the profile of fricative pronounced 9. To know what fricative are mispronounced by the students 1. To know what are the factor make the students in pronouncing English fricative. The data was collected by giving the test for 08 participants and the data was analyzed by using descriptive qualitative method. The respondent of this research were 08 students. They were take from students in class 8c of SMPN 0 Karangtanjung. of English academic year 9108/9109. 0. Most of the students didn’t know how to say the fricative pronounced. Their pronounced “p” that should be pronounced “f”, and the word “ð” most of students pronounced as “d, th, and t”. 9. The research revealed that the respondents made 01 deviation of all. The replacement of [f] with [p], the replacement of [v] with [p], [f], the replacement of [ð] with [t], [d] [th], the replacement of [θ] with [t], the replacement of [ʒ] with [j], [g], the replacement of [∫] with [s] . 1. There were several factor causing students in pronouncing fricative consonants the inconsistency the word of English between the sound, several of them dislike the English language cause difficult to say the English, the unfamiliar of students to say it. The result of this research, the most fricative consonant problem in pronouncing of students. Then, based on the research the students should be given the practice of pronunciation to make good speaking in daily activity. Key word: Pronunciation, Fricative, Problem.
