Abstrak

This study aims to measure the effectiveness of using context clues strategy on reading comprehension skills of seventh grade students of MTs Negeri 3 Cilegon City. The method in this research is a pseudo experimental research. The population of this study were seventh grade students. The sample consisted of two classes, namely class VII C as the experimental group and VII A as the control group. Each group consisted of 30 students. This research was conducted through the following stages: interview, pre-test, treatment, and post-test. Data were obtained by performance tests. Based on the test results, there is an effect on the use of context clues strategy with a T value of 12.986 ˃ T table 1.701, thus showing Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. It is significant based on the percent of reading comprehension of class VII students of MTs Negeri 3 Cilegon City by 85.8% and the remaining 14.2% is influenced by other variables. The conclusion from the data shows that there is an improvement in students' reading comprehension in descriptive text after using Context Clues Strategy.
