Abstrak

Enong Fauziyyah, SRN: 161230177, “An Analysis of Collocation on Students Writing Ability of Pre service English Teacher (Qualitative descriptive analysis At English Education Department UIN Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten)”. The research aims 1) to analyze the types of collocation that used by the students in their writing essay, 2) to investigate the most dominant types of collocation that used by students in their writing essay. The researcher took 20 students from the seventh semester at English Education Department of State Islamic University of Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten (2017/2018). The research applied the descriptive qualitative method. In collecting the data applied documentation of students writing product and interview. The research findings showed that there were 98 Collocation in students’ writing essay. The collocation is classified into two types which are showed in percentage, namely Grammatical Collocation and Lexical Collocation. From 98 Collocation in students’ writing, there are 43 of Grammatical Collocation which consist of Noun + Preposition combination,14 Collocation (32,55%) Preposition + Noun combination, 2 Collocation (4,65%) Adjective + Preposition combination, 11 Collocation (25,58%) Verb + Preposition combination, 16 Collocation (37,20%). Meanwhile, there are 55 Collocation that contain type of lexical collocation which consist of Adverb + Adjective combination, 4 Collocation (7,27%) Adjective + Noun combination, 25 Collocation (45,45%) Noun + Noun combination, 8 Collocation (14,54%) Noun + Verb combination, 0 Collocation (0%) Verb + Noun combination, 13 Collocation (23,63%) Verb + Adverb combination, 5 Collocation (9,09%). Verb combination, 0 Collocation (0%). This research showed that the students commonly used Lexical Collocation rather than Grammatical Collocation. Based on the result, the students must study more about collocation especially about the types of collocation, because, collocation is very important.
