Abstrak
Since 2013, Indonesian schools have been using the 2013 curriculum. Therefore, it is hoped that the introduction of HOTS into the 2013 curriculum will be able to answer national education problems and encourage improvements in the education system. This study aimed to investigate students’ perception of practicing higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) in a reading test. The researcher used a quantitative descriptive research method to investigate the perceptions of students regarding the practice of higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) in reading tests. 20 Questionnaires were employed as the research instrument. In this study, the researcher selected 72 students out of 337, with 54 of female students and 18 of male students. The Likert scale was used to analyze the data. The findings of this study showed that for the first indicator, analyzing (C4), the majority of students had a positive perception, with 74.8% of students' perceptions categorized as high. For the second indicator, evaluating (C5), the majority of students scored 75.6%. And for the last indicator, creating (C6), the majority of students had a positive perception, with the entire percentage at 75.5%. On the other hand, it may be concluded that the results of the questionnaire indicate a high level of positive perception toward practicing higher order thinking skills (HOTS) in reading tests across all indicators. Additionally, students continue to encounter challenges in applying higher-order thinking skills, particularly when addressing reading related questions.
