Abstrak

This study aims to find out how students' perceptions of the use of English vlogs and its effect on their speaking performance. This study focuses on students' perception of their speaking performance based on their experience of using English vlogs. A mixed-methods approach was used in this study. To collect data, the researcher used closed questionnaires for quantitative data and interviews for qualitative data. The participants in this study were high school students in grade XI majoring in social studies who had used English vlogs as a medium for learning to speak in class. For quantitative data, the researcher selected 5 classes to be used as research samples with a total of 102 students as research samples. To obtain information about students' opinions on the use of English vlogs, from the qualitative data, the researcher took 5 students from each class that had been determined to be the sample class at the previous stage, namely 3 males and 2 females. after that to find out and describe students' perceptions about the use of English vlogs in their speaking performance, the quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive analysis on Excel calculations. While investigating students' opinions about English vlogs, the interview results were analyzed using Miles and Huberman's qualitative data. The results show students' positive perception of their speaking performance using English Vlog evidenced by the students’ agreement obtained from the questionnaire is 74%. Meanwhile, the interview results showed that students' opinions gave good opinions as evidenced by student and teacher interviews as well as students' scores obtained before and after using English vlogs based on their experiences. Overall this study highlights the positive impact of using English Vlogs on students' speaking performance.
