Abstrak
This study investigates Illocutionary Act in English Textbook When English Rings a Bell (Content Analysis Research). The purposes of this study are to classify the type of illocutionary and to determine the dominant illocutionary act in English Textbook When English Rings a Bell. The research was qualitative content analysis research. The source of the data is English Textbook When English Rings a Bell focused on the dialog. The researcher uses some step to analyze the data. First, reading the English textbook, coding and categorizing the data based on speech acts classification, analyzing and interpreting the data and the last is drew conclusion. The results of this study showed that there are 232 data from types of illocutionary act found in the English textbook When English Rings a Bell consist of Representatives, directives, commisives, expressives and declaratives. Representatives acts have the highest frequency of occurrence or 136 (58,6%) it was followed by directives (25%) , expressives ( 9,9%) , commisives ( 5,6%) and declaratives (0,8%) respectively. The implication of the finding of this study is expected to be use as a teaching material in learning English.
