Abstrak

SHULTHONIAH, 171230171. 2021. The Effect of Semantic Mapping on Students’ Reading Comprehension (Quasi-Experimental Research At The Eighth Grade of SMP IT Al-Barokah Pandeglang). A paper. The Study Programmed of English Education. The School of Teacher Training and Education. State Islamic University of Sultan Maulana Hasanudin Banten. This research aimed to knowing whether there is an effect on students’ reading comprehension after using semantic mapping strategy. This research generally answered three questions as follows: 1) How is the students reading comprehension on descriptive text at the eighth grade students’ of SMP IT Al-Barokah Pandeglang?. 2) How is the implementation of using semantic mapping strategy on reading comprehension in descriptive text at the eighth grade of SMP IT A-Barokah Pandeglang? 3) Does semantic mapping strategy effect on students reading comprehension at the eighth of SMP-IT Al-Barokah Pandeglang?. This research used Quasi-Experimental method. There were 60 students of eighth graders at SMP IT Al-Barokah Pandeglang. The research instrument used interview and test. Data analysis used for statistical test used the t-test. The data score from control class was 69, 73. Meanwhile from experimental class is 82, 26. The result of t-test showed that 4.46 meanwhile on degree of significance 5% that was 1. 67. The statistic test showed that or 4.46 > 1.67. It means is higher than . Moreover, the result of t-test was interpreted into statistical hypothesis testing and it showed that was accepted and was rejected. The conclusion for this research that there is a significant effect on students’ reading comprehension through semantic mapping strategy. Through this strategies can help students to find information specific on the text and also can help students in distinguishing the main idea and supporting paragraph, add new vocabulary for they. By semantic mapping students also are more motivated to actively participate in lessons, especially on descriptive text material as well as improving student’s reading comprehension.
