Abstrak
Uun Hunayah. 171230122. 2021. An Analysis of Figurative Language in the Song of “A Whole New World” By Tim Rice (Study of Content Analysis) Language is the most important part in living life in this world. Language is a tool used by humans to interact, communicate, and get information from other people. In this modern era, there are many ways to communicate and express thoughts to others, one of them is through songs. The song certainly contains figurative language. Figurative language is a language used to express the meaning of words indirectly. This study analyzes the types of figurative language and analyzes the contextual meaning to find the meaning contained in the song A Whole New World By Tim Rice. The formulated problems in this research are: (1) What are the types of figurative language found in the song A Whole New World By Tim Rice? and (2) What are the contextual meanings of the figurative language used in the song A Whole New World By Tim Rice?. The aims of this research is to find out what are the types of figurative language in the song of A Whole New World By Tim Rice and to describe the contextual meanings of the figurative language used in the song A Whole New World By Tim Rice. Furthermore, this research is a qualitative research model which is presented in a qualitative descriptive. The researcher use content analysis method in analyzing the data in this research. The researcher uses documentation study in collecting the data. The data source was taken from the lyrics of A Whole New World song. The results of the study found that the language styles in the lyrics of the song A Whole New World include (1) alliteration, (2) simile, (3) personification, (4) metaphor and (5) hyperbole. The most common figurative language found in the songs is Metaphor because this song carries an imaginative theme. The contextual meaning found in the lyrics reflects the theme of the song.
