Abstrak

This research aimed to find out teacher teaching strategies in teaching speaking and how students respond to teaching strategies in teaching speaking. The type of research was specifically a case study. The participans of this study were ten (10) students and one (1) English teacher at the Eighth Grade of SMP Plus Assa’adah. The data teacher teaching speaking strategies were obtained by observation checklist and interview. The result of the study showed that teacher teaching speaking strategies contained three strategies used in teaching speaking including Drilling, Question and Answer, and Role Play. The data of the students’ response to teaching strategies in teaching speaking were obtained by interview. The result of the students’ response to teaching strategies in teaching speaking got a very positive response. All of them believe that the strategies used to teach speaking are highly enjoyable; every strategy used can affect their development and increase their speaking ability.
