Abstrak

This research investigates the effects of lexical knowledge of collocation in reading lesson, specifically it is written in the title of this research paper. This research is aimed to find out the students‟ reading comprehension of the second grade of MA Daarul-Ulum Panyaungan who apply lexical approach, to find out the students‟ reading comprehension of the second grade of MA Daarul-Ulum Panyaungan who do not apply lexical approach, and knowing whether the student‟s taught through lexical approach have better performance in reading than those who are taught through non lexical approach. The method used in this research is experimental with two classes, called experimental and control class using pre-test and post-test technique. The research conducted at MA Daarul-Ulum Panyaungan on March 21st until April 04th 2017. The writer collected data from 60 students spreading in two classes, one class is as experimental group and another one is as control group by using quasi experimental method. The population was students of the second grade of MA Daarul-Ulum Panyaungan and the writer took sample from class B as experimental class and class A as control class. Since the research used experimental method, the data was gathered through pre-test and post-test. Based on the result of the research that there is significant effect of teaching reading through lexical collocation approach on students‟ reading comprehension. According to the data, the value of to (t observation) is higher than tt (t table) 2,00 < 6,70 > 2,66, in degree of significant 5% and 1%. It means that Ha (alternative hypothesis) of research is accepted and Ho (null hypothesis) is rejected. Also concluded there is significant difference of teaching reading through lexical collocation approach and teaching reading by conventional approach.
