Abstrak

This research investigates the effect of intensive reading strategy on students’ reading comprehension; specifically it is written in the title of this research paper that is“ The Effect of Intensive Reading Strategy on Students’ Reading Comprehension at Eight Year of SMPN 1 Curug – Tangerang”. The research is conducted based on the main problem 1. How are the students reading comprehension at eight grade of SMPN 1 Curug - Tangerang before and after use intensive reading strategy? 2). How is the effect of intensive reading strategy on students’ reading comprehension at eight grade of SMPN 1 Curug -Tangerang? In reference to the aforementioned research problem, this research is aimed at 1). To know the influence of intensive reading strategy on students’ reading comprehensionat eight grade stu dents of SMPN 1 Curug –Tangerang before and after using intensive reading strategy. 2). To find out the effect of intensive reading strategy on students’ reading comprehension in SMPN 1 Curug –Tangerang. To answer questions, the researcher collected data from 60 student’s spreading in two classes, one class as the experimental class and another one is as the control class, by applying quasi experimental research method. The population is the eighth grade of SMPN 1 Curug –Tangerang year 2016 and the researcher takes sample from VIII H as the experimental class and VIII I as the control class. The data was gathered through pre-test and post-test. The results of the research show that the value of t observation is 7, 38 and the degree of freedom (df) is 60. In this paper, the researcher used the degree of significance of 5% is 2, 00 and 1% is 2, 66, so to: tt = 7, 38> 2, 00 in degree of significance 5% and to: tt = 7, 38> 2, 66 in degree of significance 1%. It means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) of the research is accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. Based on calculating the data of t - test that the influence of using intensive reading strategy has positive effect on students’ reading compr ehension.
