Abstrak

The purpose of this research is to investigate the result of gender representation in ELT textbook for Eight Grade StudentsPublished by Indonesia Ministry of Education and Culture and Yudistira. The object of this research isBahasa Inggris “When English Rings a Bell” for SMP/MTS grade VIII that published By Indonesia Ministry of Education and Culture and “The Bridge English Competence for SMP grade VIII. This research focused on five aspects of analysis such as : female and male pictures, female and male mentioned, female and male roles, female and male games or sport, and the pattern of mentioning female and male names. The data collection of this research use the qualitative method which content analysis. The results gender representation in ELT textbook Bahasa Inggris and The Bridge indicate represent female dominanted in the aspect gender mentions, gender games or sports, and pattern of mentioning female and male names. While represent female dominanted in the aspect gender pictures, and roles. In the textbook The Bridge are represent female dominanted in the aspect gender mentions, gender roles, and gender games or sports. While represent female dominanted in the aspect gender pictures and pattern of mentioning female and male names.The total number of gender representation in ELT textbook Bahasa Inggris are female more visible than male such as female (689) and male (592). While in the textbook The Bridge are female more visible than male too such as female (431) and male (395). Then from both of textbook are the total of gender representation in ELT textbook are equal.
