Abstrak
Conditional sentence is one of the English materials that must be mastered by students who are in high school. The process of mastering conditional sentences is diffi cult, because this material has three types which has different forms and functions each other. T he objective of this study can be described as follows: 1) To analyze the students’ ability in constructing conditional sentence type 1, 2, and 3 at the second grade of SMAN Cahaya Madani Banten Boarding School. 2) To find out what the difficulties of students do in constructing conditional sentence. The data of this research were taken from the second grade students of SMAN Cahaya Madani Banten Boarding School. T he sample s of this analysis are 15 samples from one class. Every student should construct 15 conditional sentences (five sentences in conditional sentence type 1, five sentences in conditional sentence type 2 and five sentences in conditional sentence type 3) . Based on the result of data, it can be summarize d that the students’ ability in constructing conditional sentence of the second grade students of SMAN Cahaya Madani Ban ten Boarding School is good . There are only 5 students out of 15 students made errors more th an 53,3 %, the most students ability in constructing conditional sentence is good enough . And the difficulties of students SMAN Cahaya Madani Banten Boarding School in constructing conditional sentence is in grammar or 77 % of errors. The errors are caused by: Students did not master the tenses as a basis of learning condition al sentence, and the students did not know the use of verb in each conditional sentence.
