Abstrak
The main purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of the show and tell method in increasing students’ self-confidence in speaking skill and to identify how much students’ self-confidence increases in speaking skill after being taught using the show and tell method. This research is pre-experimental research which only uses one class without any comparison class. Data collection was carried out by conducting pre-test, post-test, and questionnaire. The participants in this research were 30 class XI students of SMA Negeri 3 Pandeglang. The results of this research indicate that using the show and tell method can increase students’ self-confidence in their speaking skills. This is proven by students’ test scores which have increased after being given treatment. In the pre-test the students’ average score was 11,56667, in the post-test the students got a score of 16.8 and in the questionnaire they got 51,16129. Show and tell is an appropriate method to use to increase students’ confidence in speaking skills. The results of this research are useful information for English teachers in teaching speaking.
