Abstrak

This study aims to analyze the struggle of a woman to gain access to education in Jane Eyre's novel by Charlotte Bronte. There are 3 objectives in this paper. The first objective is to know the struggle of Jane Eyre when she goes to a charity-school. The second objective is to know Jane's struggle when she becomes a governess in Thornfield and a teacher for girls in a remote village. The last objective is to know the moral values that Jane does for the field of education. In the writing of this work, the writer used library research. To answer these problems, the writer used descriptive method to illustrate the condition of education in the novel. The results of this study are first, Jane Eyre as the main character is an unyielding character, full of struggle and oppose the oppression and violence against women. Even in a trial, she can prove herself innocent and what the principal alleges about Jane being a liar and ungrateful is wrong with presenting a doctor as a witness. Second, Jane's character is a smart and brilliant woman when she became a teacher. She teaches at a female school, where they cannot yet write, read, and count. Even they speak harshly and do not yet know the customs of manners towards others, but Jane continued to teach them with affection and care. She thinks they are children who should get the same rights including education. Her brilliant thought and hard work now yields encouraging results. The children grew into sharp-brained, intelligent women and discipline. They also have a natural manner that is appropriate for their age. Third, the writer finds that feminism in Jane's struggles there are moral values that are worthy of imitation. Where the first, as a student should be patient in learning. That is, not only be patient in reading the material but also with the condition of the learning environment. Secondly, as a teacher should be wise in dealing with the various characters of students and the problems caused by it. If the student is doing wrong, then let him know, and when the student achieves, praise him accordingly. Because actually being a teacher is like a sculptor. She must be smart and careful to sculpt his statue to produce an expensive works.
