Abstrak

Bai Fadliyah. 171230146. 2021. The Effectiveness of Duolingo Application to Enhance Students’ Writing Simple Sentences. There are many methods that teacher can use to make student learning active and develop their writing skills. Using technology wisely can help learning activities be more effective, efficient and innovative. One of them is using by duolingo application in learning writing simple sentences. This research was to find out whether teaching writing by using duolingo application can improve students writing ability, especially in writing simple sentences. Writing is very necessary for the students to be able to communicate with other people or make an essay and convey an idea that appears in their head into writing. Used duolingo application can explore students’ writing interest. This research used quantitative research and used a quasi-experimental design as the method with pre-test and post-test control group design. Instrument used is form of objective test as making simple sentences. This research was conducted as Mts Al-Hamidiyah Kadukacapi year 2021. The sample used was the students class VIII A and VIII B eith the number of 25 students in each class which is done clustery.on the experimental class of class VIII B is using duolingo application, whereas in controlled class of class VIII A is not using it. After giving treatment on the experimental class and without it on controlled class with all data are normally distribution which has proved that the data for controlled class if compared by 1 table on critical significant 5% and 1%. The author get score calculation (to = 5,03) is higher than t table on critical significance 5% and 1%. It mean that Ha (alternative hypothesis) of research is accepted and Ho (null hypothesis) is rejected. The effect size of duolingo application in writing simple sentences is 34%. This condition is proving that there is an effect on student experimental class after giving treatment using duolingo application. Based on the result above, it can be concluded that duolingo application can be used in teaching writing simple sentences. The result of this research shows that the students’ writing simple sentences using duolingo application achieve better performance than those who do not use it.
