Abstrak

This research investigates the use of index card match on students’ reading comprehension in descriptive text, specifically it is written in the tittle of this research paper, that is “The Effectiveness of Index Card Match (ICM) on Students’ Reading Comprehension in Descriptive text at the seven grade in MTs Yabika Jambe”. The researcher is conducted based on the main problem 1) How is index card match strategy applied on students’ reading descriptive text? 2) How is the effectiveness of index card match strategy on student reading descriptive text? According to research problem above, the objective of this research are, 1) How to apply Index Card Match strategy for students on reading descriptive text 2) To know the effectiveness of Index Card Match strategy on student reading descriptive text. This research is quasi experimental research. It design uses the pre-test and post-test design and used two class. There are experimental class and control class. This research uses index card match on students’ reading comprehension in descriptive text guided by the cards. The population is the seven grade of MTs Yabika Jambe. To answer the question, the writer collects data from 56 students of class VII. There are 25 students’ of class VII A as a experimental class, and 31 students of class VII C as a control class that taken as the sample. Based on the result of research, the writer found cumulative value of pre test experimental class was 1480, when on average 59.2 and post test was 2240, when on average 89.6. Beside, cumulative value of pre test control class was 1485, when on average pre test 47.9 and post test was 2120, when on average 68.39. iv From the result statistic calculation, it is obtained that the value of to is 2.75 the degree of freedom (df) is 54. In this process, the writer used the degree of significance of 5% is 2.00 and 1% is 2.67 it means that Ha (the alternative hypothesis) of the research was accepted, and Ho (the null hypothesis) was rejected. After knowing the value of description above, it can be concluded that the assessment result of post-test is significant. It means that applying index card match strategy on students’ reading comprehension in descriptive text for the seven grade is effective.
