Abstrak

Syafaat, 132301542 “The Relationship Between Vocabulary And Listening Ability At Third Students Of MTs Al-Rahmah Islamic Boarding School” . Graduate research paper, Departemen of English Education, Faculty of Education and Teacher Training, State Islamic University, “Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten”. Advisers : Dr. Apud, M.Pd and Emilia Sukmadara Damanik, M.Hum. This study is entiltled “the relantionship between vocabulary mastery and listening ability (a relationship study at the third year student of Mts Al-rahmah walantaka, kota serang)”. It attempts to find out whether there is a relantionship between vocabulary mastery and listening ability. The method applied on this study was descriptive quantative method. The population of this were the third grade students of MTs Al-rahmah Walantaka. The sample of this study was 30 students of class IX –A by using simple random sampling. Here, The sample was given two kinds of tests. Those are a set of vocabulary mastery test and listening ability tests. The vocabulary mastery test was conducted to know the students’ ability in understanding the meaning iii of words by finding the same meaning and the opposite meaning of the words. The listening ability test was also conduted to know their ability in graping and understanding the information in the oral texts. The result of this research shows that most of the students who got high score in vocabulary mastery test also got high score in listening ability test. From the statistical analysis by using product Moment Correlation, the obtained coefficient of relationship is 0.94. Moreover , in the comuted listening test is 14,58. Therefore, this result showns that the relantionship between vocabulary mastery and listening ability is highly positive. It means that the alternative hypothesis (H2) is accepted and null hypothesis (H1) is rejected. In conclusion, there is a relantionship between vocabulary mastery and listening ability.
