Abstrak

YAYAH UKHROWIYAH,2017,Teaching Reading Comprehension Through Story Mapping Strategy (SMS) (Experimental Research at sechond Grade of MTs AL-FATH Cilegon Academic Year 2015/2016). (undergraduate research paper, Department of English Educatio, Faculty of Education and Reacher Treaning, The state Intitute for Islamic studies Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten). Advisers Dr. Naf’an Tarihoran, M.hum and Yayu Heryatun, M.Pd. ABSTRACT This research investigates the use of story mapping strategy (SMS) on teaching reading comprehension. The research is conducted on the main problems: 1. How is students’ reading comprehension skills at MTs Al-Fath Cilegon?2. How is the effective story mapping strategy (SMS) in teaching reading comprehension in this school?. This research aims of studty the following: 1. To know students’ reading comprehension at MTs Al-Fath Cilegon.2. To find out how effective the use of story mapping strategy (SMS) in teaching reading comprehension in this school. To answers the questions, the writer collect data from 60 students as a sample into two clasess, one class as experimental class and another one as the control class, by applying experimental research methode. The population is the second grade of MTs Al-Fath Cilegon divide in two clasess as a sample while class B is experiment class and class C as the control class. Since the research uses quasi experiment method, the data is gathered through pre-test and post-test. From the result calculation above, the value of t0 = 2,90 the degree of freedom (df) = 40. The writer use degree of significant 5% = 2,02 and 1%= 2,72. It means that Ha (Alternative Hypothesis) of the research is accepted and H0 (Null Hypothesis) is rejected.The writer compared it tt both degree of significant 5% and 1 % t0>2,02<2,90>2,72. It means (Alternative Hypothesis) of the research is accepted. So, based on strategy in teaching reading on narrative text has positive effect. Finally, it was suggested that English teacher should have appropriate method in teaching English and be more motivated in order to make the learning process of the students more fun that can make the students enjoy in their learning.
