Abstrak

Ina Fitriyani. 142301708. 2018. “The Effectiveness of using Kim’s memory game for enhancing students vocabulary (An Experimental Research at the first grade of SMPN 1 Cijaku – Lebak),” Undergraduate Research Paper, English Education Department Faculty of Education and Teacher Training, The Islamic University of Sultan Maulana Hasanudin Banten. Advisers: Dr. Yayu Heryatun, M.Pd. and Emeliya Sukma Dara Damanik, M.Hum. Vocabulary is one of the important language elements in learning English and also the vocabulary is taught in learning English before study to another language elements. Teaching vocabularies using the right strategies is important in order to help the students learn the target words. There are various ways to using each vocabulary, such as translation, giving definitions, and memorizing the words. In teaching vocabularies some of students forgot easily in memorizing words, and cannot achieve well in the vocabulary test. Based on the problem above, the researcher want to research the students in SMPN 1 Cijaku, the study entitled “The Effectiveness of using Kim’s memory game for enhancing students vocabulary” (An Experimental Research at the first grade of SMPN 1 Cijaku – Lebak). The research is concluded based on the problems of: 1) How is the applying kim’s memory game to develop students’ vocabulary ? 2) Is using this game able to improve students vocabulary effective ? And the purpose of the research are: 1) Can help students in developing their vocabulary skill. 2) To understand the effectiveness of the game for students. By applying quasi experiment research method, the researcher collected data from 50 students spread in two classes, one as experiment class and another as a control class. The data were collected through pre-test and post-test. The result of this research shows that the hypothesis, the null hypothesis is rejected its showed from statistical value that significant 5%=1.67 and significant 1%=2.40 and the result of to=8,62 , based on calculation the data of t-test that effective of using kim’s memory game in teaching vocabularies has positive effect. Finally, it is suggested that English teacher should have appropriate method in teaching English and be more motivated in order to make teaching and learning process by using some strategies that can make students more enjoyable in their learning.
