Abstrak
Until today, textbook has an important role in teaching and learning process. It as a guideline for teacher to transference information of materials to their students and as a coursebook for students. The textbook consist of materials in order to considere d the four basic sk ills. This paper is discussed readability in relations to linguistic. This reaserch is a qualitative descriptive analysis. The result shows that selected texts are classified into very easy to difficult level. The objective of this study is to see the readability level of selected reading text s in Scafolding English for junior high school , a textbook for the eight grade students. T he first aim is to find out the readability level of the selected reading texts in that textbook. The second aim is to identify the word class chategory caused the low readability score based on the cloze Test answer sheet. The score of readability of this study were measured by using flesch reading ease formula and cloze test. Linguistic problems of students in eight grade junior high school students to understand the text will be revealed by analyzing the word chateg ory of the completed cloze test. T he lack of understanding of the grammatical and context of discourse are the causes of low text readability.
