Abstrak

This Research Entitled “ IMPROVING STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN IDENTIFYING MAIN IDEAS OF PARAGRAPHS BY USING JIGSAW TECHNIQUE” (A Classroom Action Research at the Eighth Grade of MTs Al - Khairiyah Karang Tengah Cilegon). The research is conduct based on the statements of the problem: 1) How is the implementation of Jigsaw technique in identify ing main ideas of paragraphs ? 2) How is the improvement of students’ ability in identify ing main ideas by using Jigsaw technique ?. Related to the statements of p roblem are: 1) To know how is the implementation of Jigsaw technique in identify ing main ideas of paragraphs, 2) To know how is the improvement of students’ ability in identify ing main ideas by using Jigsaw technique . The m ethod in this research is CAR (Classroom Action Research) which uses cycle model as follow: Planning, Acting, Observing and reflecting. The research has chosen the eighth grade students of Junior High School MTs Al - Khairiyah Karang Tengah Cilegon as the ob ject in t his research which consists 2 2 students. The writer conduct this research is one month on August in one semester, 2016. The Research apply three meeting during the research they are pre - cycle test, cycle test I and cycle test II. The writer uses observation, interview and test in collecting the data. The resu lt of test in pre - cycle is 58 , 18 the average of cycle I is 69, 64 , and the average of cycle II is 7 9, 55 . The achievement of the test show that uses Jigsaw as technique for learning English reading is successful because the result of the cycle II test is higher than the cycl e I test. So, with this result the writer conclude that the research improve students ’ ability in identifying main ideas of paragraphs . From the result of this r esearch using Jigsaw as technique is very interesting for the students . It can be seen from the improvement of students test result during pre - cycle, cycle I and cycle II. So , using Jigsaw as technique can be good strategy for learning reading .
