Abstrak

This research designed to find out the effectiveness of vocabulary self - collection strategy (VSS) towards reading comprehension in narrative tex t. The research conducted based on the main problem: 1) How is the students reading comprehension in narrative text at the eight grade of SMPN 3 Pandeglang? 2) How is the effectiveness of vocabulary self - collection strategy (VSS) in narrative text at the e ight grade of SMPN 3 Pandeglang. This research oriented to the following aims: 1) To know the students reading comprehension in narrative text at the eight grade of SMPN 3 Pandeglang. 2) To know the effectiveness of vocabulary self - collection strategy (VSS ) towards towards reading comprehension in narrative text at the eight grade of SMPN 3 Pandeglang. The writer used experimental research. To answer the question, she collected the data from 40 students spread in two classes, one class as the experiment class and another one as the control class, by applying experimental research. The population is the eight grade of SMPN 3 Pandeglang year 2017/2018, while class VIII B as experimental research and class VIII C as the control class are taken as the sample. The result of the research show that the hypothesis that of t - test of both sample class, obtained the t - observation t o was 8.46; meanwhile, the t table of d f 77 in significance 5% was 1.66 . It means t - observation ( t o ) was higher than t - table ( t table ), so n ull hypothesis ( H o ) rejected and alternative hypothesis ( H a ) is accepted. Based on calculating the data t - test that effect of vocabulary self - collection strategy on reading comprehension in narrative text has positive effect.
