Abstrak

The objective of this study is to get the empirical data about the use of short stories to develop students’ rea ding comprehension skill of Mts Daarul Falah Carenang Kopo . The method used in this paper w as qu antitative method the experimental research design. The sampling technique used in this study was quota sampling . The sample of this study was 6 0 students taken from the second grade of Mts Daarul Falah Carenang Kopo, which are 30 stude nts as experimental class and 30 students as controlled class. In collecting data, the writer conduc ted post - test about reading comprehension that using short stories test which consisted of 20 multiple choices. In this research there were four meetings for treatments includ e pre - test an d post - test that use short stories as the main s ubject for learning reading comprehension in the class. The result of the research states that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. The use of short stories is better than those who do not use short stories technique. By df = 5 8 and analyzed by using t - test, the re search stated that there is development of using short stories on stude nts’ reading comprehension skill , because is bigger than . Than in 5% and 1% the with significant level 5 % is 2,00 and significant level 1% is 2 , 66 where as is 11,04 . so it means that is 11,04 > (2,00 ) in 5%, and (11,04 ) > (2,66 ) in 1%. It means that both variables have the significant correlation. In oth er word, use short stories on students ’ reading comprehension skill is absolutely effective. This research fi nd out that short stories ca n be an alte r native to develop students’ reading comprehension skill in the second Gra de of Mts Daarul Falah Carenang Kopo .
