Abstrak
Present Perfect Tense is one of the tenses that is important to be mastered by the students. Present perfect tense indicates an action that happened at an unspecific time in the past but has a connection to the present. This research aims to measure the effectiveness of using the Climbing Grammar Mountain Game for teaching the present perfect tense. There were two research questions proposed in this research, namely: 1) How is students' present perfect tense mastery at the eighth-grade students of SMPIT Widya Cendekia before treatment? 2.) How is the effectiveness of the climbing grammar mountain game in teaching present perfect tense? The methodology of this research was a quasi-experimental design. The researcher dealt with two classes, the experimental class and the control class. The researcher did three steps in conducting this research: pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The population of this research was the eighth grade of SMPIT Widya Cendekia Kota Serang. The sample of this research was two classes consisting of 30 students. In the treatment process, the experimental group received the Climbing Grammar Mountain Game as the learning media, while the control group received the conventional teaching. The researcher analyzed the data by using an independent sample t-test. It was found that the result of Sig. (2- tailed) was 0.011 which is 0.011 < α= 0.05. It means, Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. the Independent Sample Effect Sizes of Cohen’s d point estimate is 0.994 which is > 0.8 it indicates large effect sizes. Therefore, based on the computation it can be concluded that there was a significant effect of the Climbing Grammar Mountain Game for Teaching Present Perfect Tense Mastery at the eighth grade of SMPIT Widya Cendekia Kota Serang.
