Abstrak

This research aims to investigate the effectiveness of Think, predict, read, connect (TPRC) strategy in improving students' reading comprehension in descriptive text. This research uses a quasi-experiment method, The sample of this research was the seventh grades students of SMPN 10 Kota Serang, the researcher classified them into two group. The first is control class that consist 30 students from class 7A and the second is experimental class that consist 30 students from class 7B. The results obtained in the experimental class were, the average score on the pre-test was 58.8 and the average score on the post-test was 79.9. indicates an increase of 21.1 points in the experiment class. Meanwhile, in the control class, the average pre-test score was 52.8 and the average score on the post-test was 55.6. This result Indicating an increase of control class about 2.8 points. Based on the results, shows that the implementation of the TPRC strategy successfully improved the students' reading comprehension on descriptive text. Think, predict, read, connect (TPRC) is more effective than conventional strategies because with TPRC, students are being actively engaged in meaning construction.
