Abstrak

This study aims to determine students' reading interest in Extensive Reading and what factors affect their interest in reading. This study used descriptive qualitative method. It involved 30 participants from Class B of the fifth semester. In collecting the data, the questionnaire and interview were employed. The results of this study indicate that students have a low interest in Extensive Reading. This can be seen from the results of the overall average score which only reached 2,54. Most of the students stated that they had an interest in Extensive Reading and were aware of its benefits to them. However, they don't actually apply it. Furthermore, students explained several factors that influenced their interest in Extensive Reading, including 1) The need for reading, 2) Feelings of pleasure and interest, 3) Types of reading, 4) Intensity of reading, 5) Development of information and communication technology, 6) Environment, and 7) Libraries. So, it can be concluded that students' reading interest in extensive reading depends on the needs and other factors that influence it.
