Abstrak
Writing an opinion letter is a crucial skill in the context of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) which demands critical thinking and the construction of logical arguments. This study addresses the persistent challenges faced by students at SMKN 4 Pandeglang, namely low writing motivation, difficulty in composing coherent ideas, and a minimal exposure to authentic texts that could serve as models for argumentation. This research aims to analyze the process of utilizing podcasts as an instructional tool in writing opinion letters, assess the quality of students' writing after the intervention, and identify the constraints and strategies employed by the teacher during implementation. This study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. The participants were 14 students from the XI TKJT-A class at SMKN 4 Pandeglang. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews with the teacher and students, questionnaires, and document analysis of the students' writing assignments. The findings indicate that the utilization of podcasts represents a highly effective pedagogical breakthrough for enhancing argumentative writing skills. There was a significant improvement in the quality of students' opinion letters, reaching an average score of 80. The most notable increases were observed in the Content and Vocabulary components, validating the success of podcasts as an authentic resource for stimulating ideas, overcoming writer's block, and enriching technical lexicon. However, the implementation faced key constraints, primarily related to technical infrastructure limitations unstable internet access and inadequate device ownership and a recurring issue in the accuracy of Grammatical Structure and formal Language. It is concluded that podcasts successfully function as a rich and contemporary source of argumentative input for students in a vocational context. Although there is clear pedagogical success, the optimal continuation of this implementation is heavily dependent on addressing the infrastructural challenges within the school environment.
