Abstrak
This research is motivated by the pervasive phenomenon of cultural globalization, a process significantly accelerated by technological advancements, where K-Pop has emerged as a dominant global cultural force. Within digital fandom communities like ARMY BTS on Twitter, a unique linguistic landscape has formed. The use of English slang is not merely a communication tool but also a critical component of their collective identity and in-group solidarity. This study is designed to comprehensively examine the nature and prevalence of this slang, analyze its tangible influence on the writing skills of third-semester university students, and provide valuable insights for academics, educators, and future researchers. Using a descriptive qualitative method, the research meticulously gathered data from 100 tweets containing English slang from a sample of 20 university students who are active members of the ARMY community. The findings reveal a dualistic perception among students regarding slang: it serves as an efficient information accelerator, a marker of K-Pop knowledge, and a powerful social adhesive that strengthens peer bonds. However, it also presents a significant challenge, particularly in the transition from informal to formal language use, which can hinder the development of proper academic writing skills.
