Abstrak

Speaking was the main thing to measuring someone’s English skill. Therefore, an interesting strategy was needed in teaching speaking skill to students, one of which is through numbered heads together. Theepurpose of thissresearch was to find out the effect of using numbered heads together (NHT) to improve speaking ability of the tenth grade student’s at high school MAN 3 Pandeglang. In this research, researcher used a quantitative research approach with the quasi-experimental research method with pretest and posttest design. The population of this research was all of the students in the tenth grade of high school MAN 3 Pandeglang. There are 2 classes, X-A and X-B. The total of population is 72 students. The research instrument is a tool used by researchers to collect, measure, and then analyze data related to the study. In this research, the researcher used a speaking test. This test is used to determine the students’ speaking ability using the NHT method, where the speaking test is conducted in both a pretest and a posttest. The results of the students’ pretest and posttest obtained would be calculated and analyzed use SPSS 30. The result of the data analysis shows that the mean score of speaking test before treating Numbered Head Together method was 59,6 And after treating, the mean score was improved by 83,06 The t-test value it is known that the Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value is 0,000. Since 0,000 is smaller than < 0.05. From the result of the research, the researcher conclude that the hypothesis was accepted. It means that using Numbered Head Together method was effective in teaching students’ speaking ability at the tenth grade in MAN 3 Pandeglang.
