Abstrak

Egista Sri Handayani. 171230125. 2021. Modulation Translation of Figurative Language in Pride and Prejudice Novel from English to Indonesian. This research is attempted to anlyze modulation procedure and Figurative Language were used and found in Pride and Prejudice Novel from English to Indonesia. The object of this study is focused on: (1) to identify kinds of modulation technique are applied in the translation of pride and prejudice and figurative language existence in modulation, and (2) to identify the modulation techniques most frequently used and figurative language most frequently found in the translation of pride and prejudice. This research was conducted qualitatively used a descriptive analysis method. The results Finding of this research showed that from 64 data, eight of the ten types of modulation were found by the writer and also contained the figurative language: abstract for concrete; hyperbole, metonymy. Explicit Modulation; hyperbole, metonymy, imagery, irony. A part for another part; hyperbole, personification, metonymy, imagery. Opposite of negation; metaphor, hyperbole, personification, metonymy, idiom. Active for passive; irony. Reversal Terms; hyperbole, personification, metonymy, simile, irony. Interval to limits; metonymy. Change of signs; metaphor, hyperbole. However, this research showed that reversal terms is the type of modulation most frequent used by a translator in translating the novel (18 or 28% of data). The most infrequent type of modulation is active for passive (2 or 3% of data). It is also known that, metonymy is the most common figurative language found in the modulation with (21 or 33% of data). The most incommon figurative language are found in the modulation are simile and idiom (1 or 2% of data).
