Abstrak

This research investigates about the authentic reading material to reading comprehension, specially it is written in the title of this research paper, that is “Using The Media of Authentic Reading Material to Improve Student’s Reading Comprehension. (A Classroom Action Research At The Second Grade Of SMAN 7 Serang)”. This research was conducted to improve students in second grade and consist of 28 students at SMAN 7 Kota Serang. The research conducted based on the main problems, there are 1) how is the students reading comprehension? 2) Can the authentic reading material applied for improving student’s reading comprehension at SMAN 7 Kota Serang?3) are the students interested in reading comprehension through reading newspaper material. In conducting this research, the writer used classroom action research as a method. She apply authentic material through reading newspaper (Jakarta Post) to the students. The research consisted of two cycles, each cycle consist two meetings. From this research, the students could improve their reading comprehension. It was proved by the scores of student’s reading comprehension and cycle test. The score improved in cycle test 1, it was in the first cycle, the average was 69.28%.It improved again in the second cycle, the average was 79.10%. the time of research on February 2015. The data collecting is by testing the students to answer questions about descriptive text. From the improvement of students’ score of the first and second test, they had improved their reading comprehension ability. They could comprehend the text well. In addition, used of Jakarta Post as an interesting media had influenced the students to improve their learning activity.
