Abstrak
Elvi Kurniati. 171230011. 2021. An Analysis of Teacher’s Assessment on Students’ Writing Skill at SMA Negeri 4 Cilegon. (A Qualitative Research at SMA Negeri 4 Cilegon) This research was to find out and to explain the type of formative assessment on the students’ writing skill, especially in descriptive text subject matter. The techniques of data collecting were interview and documentation. The data were analyzed qualitatively. The research findings were the teacher used performance assessment on students’ writing skill of descriptive text as the type of formative assessment. The teacher found some obstacles such as the lack of students’ mastery of language elements, the low of students’ motivation in learning English writing, the students’ passivity, and the less of students’ feedback. In addition, the weaknesses of performance assessment were the students’ final score depends on their work, the teacher felt difficult to correct the students’ work manually, it was very demanding of time and effort, and the considerations in scoring were more subjective. Meanwhile, the strengths of performance assessment were to provide the opportunities for students to compete with themselves, the students got a real understanding of what they know and what they do, and to make the students competent to think logically and can communicate their ideas clearly. The teacher was also determined an assessment format that includes seven assessment aspects, five assessment criteria, and score provisions.
