Anisa Apriani, 161360026, "Hegemony and Resistance in the Novel Al-Ajnihah Al- Mutakassirah by Kahlil Gibran". Thesis Arabic Language and Literature. Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Islamic State University Banten, 2020 M / 1442 H. Keywords: Hegemony, Resistance, Novel. Al-Ajnihah Al-Mutakassirah novel by Kahlil Gibran was published in 1922. This novel is the first novel written by Gibran in Arabic. This novel tells about Gibran's personal story with Selma. But instead of telling his love story with Selma, he was more about expressing his disappointment at the Beirut people who gave up their authority to the traditional authority of the clergy at that time. In this study, the researcher wants to discuss the forms of hegemony based on Antonio Gramsci's perspective and resistance based on the perspective of James Scott of the characters in the Al-Ajnihah Al-Mutakassirah novel. In this study, researchers used descriptive qualitative methods with intensive reading of the books related to the research. The formulation of the problem posed by the researcher is 1) What are the forms of hegemony practice in the Al-Ajnihah Al-Mutakassirah novel? 2) What are the forms of resistance practice in Al-Ajnihah Al-Mutakassirah? The purpose of this research is to analyze the hegemony practices carried out by the ulama / rulers and how society is against this hegemony in the Al-Ajnihah Al-Mutakassirah novel. Based on the results of the analysis, researchers found forms of hegemony using Gramsci's hegemony theory. In this novel, hegemony is carried out by the authorities. Among the 3 levels of hegemony stated by Gramsci, the researcher only found 2 levels of hegemony in this novel, namely total hegemony and decadent hegemony and there is no minimum hegemony practice in this novel. As a result of this hegemony, community resistance emerged against the hegemony of the ruler. Among the two types of resistance proposed by Scott, the researcher found only one type of resistance in this novel, namely hidden resistance. Meanwhile, public resistance is not found in this novel
