Abstrak

Lulu Galuh Novia Sundari. 161230162. 2021. Illocutionary Act in UK Prime Minister Statement of Coronavirus Lockdown Plan (A Content Analysis Research) This study investigates Illocutionary Act in UK Prime Minister Statement of Coronavirus Lockdown Plan (A Content Analysis Research).The purpose of this study is to investigate the types of illocutionary act and determine the dominant illocutionary act based on Searle‟s theory. The research was a qualitative content analysis research. The source of the data is the statement of Mr. Boris Johnson entitled “PM address to the nation on coronavirus”. The researcher uses some steps to analyze the data. First, identified the data by making notes or code, categorizing the data based on illocutionary act classification, and the last is drew conclusion. The finding of the study showed there are 77 data contain illocutionary act. The finding of the study showed that the speaker perform all of the type of illocutionary act in his statement. The types of illocutionary act found in Boris Johnson‟s statement consist of directives, assertive (representatives), commisives, expressives and declaratives. Directives have the highest frequency of occurance or 26 (33,76%) includes requesting, commanding, and suggesting. It is followed by assertive (representatives), commisives, expressive, and declaratives which occur 22 (28,57%), 18 (23,37%), 8 (10,38%), and 3 (3,38%) respectively. It is identified that „directives‟ are mostly performed by UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson. The implication of the finding of this study is expected to be used as a teaching material in learning English as foreign language. The finding of this research can be included in English Foreign Language learning textbooks.
