Abstrak
This research investigates the speaking assessment technique at the 2nd -1 class of MTs Miftahul Huda Pasirnangka. It aims to explore the various techniques in assessing students’ speaking skill as well as teachers’ reasons and the way in implementing those assessment techniques then to know the aspects that included in those assessment techniques. This is a case study conducted at one of Islamic junior high school in Tigaraksa focused on 2nd – 1 class. The data collected through observation and interview are analyzed qualitatively. The findings indicate that the assessment techniques used by teachers in assessing speaking skill are not only written test and students’ perform but also in asking question, opportunity to express students’ opinion and appreciation from the teacher as feedback and motivation for students in learning English. Then the aspects that included in teacher’s speaking test are as follows: pronunciation, grammar, fluency and comprehension. Meanwhile, teacher’s implementation the assessment technique that used at the 2nd - 1 class is students’ performance in presentation and role play in drama. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that assessment can be conducted while in teaching learning activity and it can be motivated students to be more excited and carefully in learning speaking skill.
