Abstrak

This research investigates the students’ writing ability in recount text.specifically it is written in the title of this research paper, that is “An Analysis of Students’ Ability in Writing Recount Text (A Case study at First Grade of SMK InformatikaSafinatunnajahKamasan). This research is conducted based on the main problems: 1). How is students’ ability in writing recount text at first grade of SMK InformatikaSafinatunnajah? 2).What is the students’ problem in writing recount text at first grade of SMK InformatikaSafinatunnajah? This research oriented to the following aim: 1).To know the students’ ability in writing recount text at first grade of SMK InformatikaSafinatunnajah. 2).To know the students’ problem in writing recount text at first grade of SMK InformatikaSafinatunnajah. To answer the question, the respondent of this research is students of the first grade of SMK InformatikaSafinatunnajahKamasan, Serang – Banten. The writer took 30 students for sample of this research. The researcher uses qualitative research. The data is gathered through test of writing recount text. The result of this research shows that the students’ ability in writing recount text is low. It can be seen from students score that there are four students got extremely good score, ten students got good score, nine students got fair score and eleven students got low score. It shows that mostly students got low score than high. Students problems on writing recount text are they lack of vocabulary so that they unable to write a recount text in English well. The students felt difficulty in the diction and the use of spelling and there are many students made errors in using punctuation and capitalization.The students find difficulty to express their ideas in writing. Their grammar knowledge is still very minimal, especially in using simple past tense.
