Abstrak
Unaedi. 152301896.2018. Identifying The Causes of Non-native Pre-service English Teachers’ Anxiety in Facing Teaching Practicum. (A Descriptive Qualitative Research at Seventh Semester Students of English Education Department, Faculty of Education and Teacher Training, State Islamic University Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten in Academic Year 2018/2019) This research is aimed to identify factors of pre-service teachers’ anxiety and the way pre-service teachers deal with the anxiety. There were 70 pre-service teachers of English Education Department, Facultuy of Education and Teacher Training, State Islamic University Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten who were doing their teaching practicum as the respondents. The Respondents completed 20 items of questionnaire adapted from Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Sale (FLCAS) and Student Teacher Anxiety Scale (STAS) in order to find out the factors of preservice teachers anxiety. Interview was also used to identify things that could make pre-service teachers’ anxiety increase and pre-service teachers’ effort in overcoming the anxiety they had. The result showed that the most influential factor from Anxiety about Using English was feeling afraid of making mistake when speaking English in the classroom (80%). For Anxiety about Class Preparation, the most influential factor was feeling afraid if students more understand English material than pre-service teachers (84.3%). Teaching Grammar was the most influential factor from teaching particular language skills (71.4%). Having question about meaning of vocabulary from students when teaching was the most influential factors that could increase pre-service teachers’ anxiety during teaching English. Based on the finding, In overcoming the anxiety, pre-service teachers did some ways; made students and pre-service teachers relax, did good preparation, and be positive thinking by believing that they could do the teaching practicum well.
