Abstrak

This research investigates “The Effect of Metacognitive Strategy on Students’ Speaking Ability “, specifically written on the title of this research paper “The Effect of Metacognitive Strategy on Students’ Speaking Ability” ( An Experiment Study at the Eleventh Grade of SMAN 1 Pamarayan),”. The research is conducted based on the statements of problems : 1)How is the students’ speaking ability at the Eleventh Grade of SMAN 1 Pamarayan ? 2) How is metacognitive applied in teaching speaking Ability at the eleventh grade of SMAN 1 Pamarayan?3) How is the effect of metacognitive learning strategy in teaching speaking Ability at the eleventh grade of SMAN 1 Pamarayan? This research oriented to the following aims : 1) To know student’s speaking Ability at the eleventh grade of SMAN 1 Pamarayan. 2) To apply metacognitive strategy in teaching speaking Ability at the eleventh grade of SMAN 1 Pamarayan.3) To know the effect of metacognitive learning strategy in teaching speaking Ability at the eleventh grade of SMAN 1 Pamarayan. To answer the questions, the researcher collects data from 70 students spreading in two classes, one class as experimental class and another one is control class by using quasi experimental method. The population is students at the eleventh grade of SMAN 1 Pamarayan, and the researcher takes sample from A class as experimental class and B as control class. Since the research used experimental method, the data was gathered through pre-test and post-test. The result of the research shows that the value of to is 12.48 the degree of freedom (df) is 68. In this paper, the writer used the degree of significance of 5% are 2.00. so to=12.48 > 2.00 it mean that Ha (the alternative hypothesis) of the research is accepted, and Ho (the null hypothesis) is rejected, which states there is significant effect between class using metacognitive strategy and the class without using metacognitive strategy. It means that there is significant influence of speaking ability comprehension. that use metacognitive strategy is better than those who do not use metacognitive strategy.
