Abstrak

Th is research investigates the Effectiveness of Cloze Procedure Technique in teaching reading, specifically it is written in the title of this research pap er, that is “The Effectiveness of Cloze Procedure Technique t o Improve Students‟ Reading Comprehension (An Experimental Research at the Second Gr ade of SMPN 02 Karangtanjung )”. The research is conducted based on the main problems (1). How is the student‟s reading comprehension before using cloze procedure technique?(2). How is the application of using cloze procedure technique on student‟s reading c omprehension in teaching reading?(3).How is the effectivenest student‟s reading comprehension after using cloze procedure technique?In reference to the mentioned research problem, this research is aimed at (1)To know the student‟s reading comprehension bef ore using cloze procedure technique? (2)To know the application of using cloze procedure technique on student‟s reading in teaching reading? (3)To know how cloze procedur e can increase their vocabulary? (4)To know how cloze procedure can deduce meaning from context?(5)To know the student‟s reading comprehension after using cloze procedure technique? To answer the question, t he writer collects data from 62 students spread in two classes, one class as an experimental group an d another as control group, by appl ying experimental research method. The population is the second grade of SMPN 02Karangtanjung year 2016/2017, while class VIII D as experimental class and class VIII C as the control class are taken as data the samples. Since the research uses experimental method, the data is gathered through pre - test and post - test. The result of the research showed the value of is 745, 03 the degree of freedom (df) is 30. In this paper, the writer used the degree of significance of 5% are 1, 69. So to = 745, 03> 2,45 it m ean that Ha (the alternative hypothesis) of the research is accepted, and Ho (the null hypothesis) is rejected, which states there is significant effect between class using Cloze Procedure Technique and the class without Cloze Procedure Technique is reject ed. It means that there is significant effect of reading mastery between both classes. The effect is that the students teaching reading that use Cloze Procedure Technique is better that those who do not use Cloze Procedure Technique.
