Abstrak

This study investigates teachers’ and students’ perceptions of using Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools such as Gemini, Genie and ChatGPT in writing descriptive texts at SMKN 2 Pandeglang. The integration of AI in English learning is increasingly prominent, offering instant feedback, vocabulary enrichment, and improved grammatical accuracy. Using a mixed-method design, the researcher collected data from 108 students of grade X TKJ and three English teachers through questionnaires and structured interviews. The results of the quantitative data show that students demonstrate a high understanding of AI functions and frequently use AI tools in writing tasks. Most students reported that AI improved their grammar, vocabulary, and writing motivation, although a portion admitted feeling dependent on AI when producing descriptive texts. Teachers’ interviews revealed that AI is perceived as beneficial for enhancing writing quality, especially through immediate corrective feedback; however, concerns were raised regarding over-reliance, reduced originality, and unequal access to technology. The study concludes that both teachers and students view AI positively, recognizing its effectiveness in supporting descriptive writing, but emphasize the need for balanced use, ethical guidance, and teacher supervision to maintain creativity, authenticity, and learner autonomy. The findings highlight the importance of integrating AI wisely in vocational English learning to maximize benefits while minimizing challenges.
