Abstrak
This study investigates students‘ experiences, challenges, and perceptions regarding the use of ELSA Speak as an Artificial Intelligence–based application to support English speaking development. Using a qualitative case study design at SMP Mutiara Bangsa 7, data were collected through classroom observation, interviews, documentation, and a questionnaire, and analyzed thematically with NVivo software.The findings show that students experienced ELSA Speak as enjoyable, motivating, and supportive. The application helped them overcome speaking problems—especially pronunciation accuracy, fluency, and confidence—through instant feedback and repeated practice. Students also demonstrated highly positive perceptions toward the effectiveness of AI in helping them practice independently and improve their speaking performance. In conclusion, ELSA Speak played a significant role in enhancing students‘ speaking skills by providing a constructive and autonomous learning environment.
