Abstrak

Morphology is a field that investigates how changes in language form indicate variations in meaning, focusing on the structure and patterns of words. This study aims to analyzed the types of word-formation, the most common type of word-formation and how does the word-formation formed in students’ English textbook ‘Life Today’. The researchers used Yule's theory and a descriptive qualitative technique with content analysis approach. Researcher discovered 7 out of 10 word formation processes, including 1 (0.47%) coinage word, 6 (2.85%) borrowing words, 33 (15.7%) compounding words, 10 (4.76%) conversion words, 4 (1.90%) acronym and initialism words, 151 (71.9%) derivation words, and 5 (2.38%) multiple process words. Researcher did not discover any instances of clipping, blending, or backformation in the data. The total amount of data discovered by the researcher is 210 words. The collected data shows that the most common process in the students' English textbook "Life Today" is derivation. The study reveals that the derivation process is the most common process of word formation due to its productivity and flexibility in adding different affixes. However, the researcher finds that the students' English textbooks "Life Today" contain a wide range of word formation processes.
