Abstrak

This research observes the utilization of stick puppet media to improve students speaking skills. The research was conducted based on the main problems, How is the students’ speaking skill at the Seventh Grade of MTs Satu Atap Hidayatul Athfal Kota Serang?, How to apply the stick puppet media in the classroom?, How is the utilization of stick puppet media in improving students’ speaking skills? The objectives of this research were to find out the students’ speaking skills at the Seventh Grade of MTs Satu Atap Hidayatul Athfal Kota Serang, to observe how to apply the stick puppet media in the classroom and to observe the utilization of stick puppet media in improving students’ speaking skills in English lessons. The subject of this research was seventh-grade of MTs. Satu Atap Hidayatul Athfal Kota Serang in the academic year 2022/2023 which consisted of 39 students. This research uses Classroom Action Research. The research was conducted in two cycles each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The data were gathered through quantitative and qualitative data. The result of this research showed that there was increasing of students in speaking skills. The mean of the pre-cycle was 48,1. The mean of the cycle I was 69,3. Then the mean of cycle II was 76,7. It indicated that the scores and the mean in the second cycle were better than in the first cycle. The students who got points>70 also grow up. In the pre-cycle, the students who got points >70 were 6 students. In cycle I students who got points >70 were 24 students and the cycle II, students who got points >70 were 34 students. In other words, the student’s ability in speaking improved by stick puppet media and became well from the first meeting to the next meeting.
