Abstrak

Dini Fatihati. 171230087. 2021. The Analysis of Idiomatic Lexicon in Sam Smith’s Song Lyrics in the Album “Love Goes” (A Study of Semantic). In languages, idioms are a fascinating phenomenon to observe. Even though idiom is a difficult concept to grasp, it now accounts for a significant portion of our everyday communication. It will be simple to learn the idiom through song. The aim of this study is to disclose idiomatic expressions in the Sam Smith’s “Love Goes” album and the meaning. The research studies of this thesis were (1) what types of idiom are found in Sam Smith’s song lyrics in album “Love Goes”? (2) What meaning of idioms are found in Sam Smith’s song lyrics in the album “Love Goes”? This study is descriptive qualitative research which used content analysis method which described the idiomatic expressions used in Sam Smith song lyrics in album “Love Goes” and library research as research approach. Data on this research used documentation such as book, journal, and other documents as the data collection technique. The result of the analysis shows that 1) The idioms found in the whole songs in the album “Love Goes” are 48 idioms. It contains 29 Phrasal verbs, 12 tournure idiom and 3 Irreversible binomial idiom, and 4 phrasal compound idiom. 2) The idiomatic expressions found in the album “Love Goes” mostly are representing pain and sadness, love and desire.
